Former Administrative Center on the Upper Danube
Höchstädt is a small, likable, Bavarian-Swabian town with a stalwart castle on the Danube Cycling Trail (Donauradwanderweg). A permanent exhibit in the castle, the tin-figure diorama in the Heimatmuseum (Museum of Local History) and the Denkmalweg (Memorial Path) following the traces of the battle of 1704 commemorate the importance of the town in the War of the Spanish Succession.
With a variety of cultural events in the castle, an excellent network of bike trails and a location right on the river with idyllic forests and wetlands, the town offers a multitude of leisure possibilities.
